It never hurts to be thankful, but sometimes we aren’t sure that we have the right word and we might come across as rude for not saying anything.

In this post I’ll show you different ways of showing appreciation.

Mil gracias

The augmented version of gracias is actually pretty simple. You just say a thousand thank yous.

I’ve heard some people take it one step further and say un millón de gracias, but in my opinion that’s too much.

Gracias por + noun phrase

If you need to be more specific you can state the reason why you are grateful.

• Gracias por tu ayuda
• Gracias por el consejo
• Gracias por la sugerencia

And if you want to be very comprehensive, you can say:

• Gracias por todo

Gracias por + infinitive

This one is a bit tricky, as you need to complement the infinitive with the appropriate indirect pronoun (me for first person)

• Gracias por ayudarme
• Gracias por invitarme
• Gracias por acompañarme
• Gracias por recomendarme

That’s it, you don’t need more than this to show appreciation. Now go out there and start thanking all there is to be thankful for.
