Let me introduce you to a nice little verb that willl take you far.
Last week I was showing a student a website, and she wanted to say “I’ll look into it later”, and asked me if there was an equivalent in Spanish.
There sure is, I said: “Lo voy a chusmear más tarde”
Chusmear means to dedicate some time to something, be it an article, a video, a website or an app.
It has another meaning asociated with gossipping, but when we use it in the way I’ve just shown you, it means to pay curious attention to something.
There are other words in this family:
CHUSMA – adjective – a person who likes gossipping. In other dialects of Spanish “la chusma” has a different meaning that is not used in Argentina.
CHISMOSO – adjective – if things worked consistently, it would make more sense to have the word chusmoso, but well, you know that’s not usually the case.
CHISME – noun – gossip
CHIMENTO – noun – somewhat the same as CHISME. In Argentina, we have programas de chimentos, which are those TV shows that spy on the life of celebrities.
Good luck with your Spanish learning,
Let me know if I can be of help!
