Apparently, wood has a neutralizing effect on bad luck, as this idiom is used in the same way in English and Spanish. I’m almost certain this is not exclusively Argentinian, but I hear it very often.
- Este año, toco madera, no tuve ningún problema con el auto.
- Hasta ahora todo parece bien encaminado, toquemos madera.
- Toco madera, pero este mes venimos vendiendo muy bien.
