Me and the Sierras of Córdoba behind.

About me

Hola, ¿qué tal? Soy Matías from Argentina 👋. I was born and raised in Buenos Aires, but since January 2022 I’ve been living in Villa General Belgrano, a small touristic town in the province of Córdoba surrounded by sierras.

I’m a certified Spanish teacher by International House Buenos Aires, and I’ve been a language tutor (for Spanish and English as a foreign language) for over 10 years. In this time, I have:

  • introduced elementary students to Spanish and guided them through the maze,
  • coached intermediate students to achieve fluency and improve their pronunciation,
  • helped students with homework,
  • checked academic papers,
  • prepared candidates for exams and interviews,
  • and inducted dozens of Spanish learners into Rioplatense Spanish.

Whether you’ve already started exploring the Spanish jungle or you’re considering paying it a visit, I’m here to help you understand and appreciate Spanish language in its natural habitat. I’ll be your (sort of spiritual) guide into the apparent chaos. My intention is to show you that behind the seeming chaos, everything makes sense.

I’m quite relaxed in terms of tutor-student relationship. I don’t like being ‘the one who knows everything and is always right’, and I stay away from the masterclass format. You know, the ‘I-speak-you-nod’ format. I like to be able to provide you with clear explanations and guidance when needed, but I also want you to get involved and really understand and use the language!

If necessary, I normally use English as the ‘base language’ for explanations and to go further into vocabulary items, but I’ll encourage (and challenge) you to speak Spanish right off the bat. I’m constantly on the lookout for cool resources that will make the learning process efficient, informative, and enjoyable

I love languages and I’m a keen language learner myself. I speak English and Portuguese fluently and I’ve recently taken up German. If you think I can help you, click the link below to head to the lessons menu and let’s get started!

About Venture Out

I started Venture Out when I had short hair and after two plus years of full online teaching. My goal here is to be of help in the best possible way. Maybe by joining you in your Spanish learning, or just by sharing with you some insights and resources about Rioplatense Spanish.

Fortunately for me, Rioplatense Spanish (aka RPS, Porteño Spanish or Argentinian Spanish though the latter is not an accurate term) has a good reputation.

Over my years of teaching, I’ve come across many students deliberately interested in getting the hang of Argentinian Spanish, so here I am.

I belong to the generation that saw the Internet grow from 56kb/ps to these days and I can barely believe it happened before my very eyes. I just love the fact that I was able to witness the inception of the Internet. I’ve taken advantage of it so many times as a user that I thought it was high time to give something in return and make my contribution.

Besides, I greatly value the opportunity to connect with people who live in other parts of the world. So please, feel free to reach out. It will be awesome to hear from you!

Happy Spanish learning,

Un abrazo,

Matías
